Come build a new deck for a Birmingham neighbor — a morning of honest work with Immanuel Volunteers and Hearts In Hands. First time volunteering? This is the perfect event to start with.

The day

When: Saturday morning, August 29 — exact start time and address are texted to everyone who signs up.
What: Building a new deck, start to finish: measuring, carrying lumber, cutting, screwing down boards, cleanup. Jobs for every skill level and pace.
Who: Anyone. Experienced hands will run the saws; everyone else carries, holds, fastens, and learns. Bring a friend, a spouse, your small group — the more the better.
Provided: Tools, materials, water, and a team leader who runs the day. You just show up.
Bring: Closed-toe shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and work gloves if you have them (we'll have extras).
Done by: Early afternoon — with a finished deck a neighbor will use for years.
